Why Don’t Companies Like Microsoft’s GCC High?

In our discussions with prospects, we have learned four main reasons as to why companies often prefer something other than Microsoft’s GCC High. Specifically, when it comes to CMMC compliance. The first is subjective. The other three should give anyone considering GCC High pause to think and re-consider:

User Preferences 

Companies may prefer alternative email services with different features and functions – such as actual storage – in order to meet their needs more effectively.

Cost

GCC High is considered to be one of the most expensive email services. Some companies simply may not be able to afford it. Additionally, some may find it highly irritating to be “nickeled and dimed” for adding needed features and functions. Such functions that come free with a solution such as the online CUI compliance service provided by RegDOX Solutions.

Complexity

GCC High has many features and functions that can confuse some users. This may require more training and support than desirable. Unlike RegDOX, GCC High is not architected to allow only the features and functions needed by a particular user to be shown to that user.

Likewise, adding users with GCC High is time-consuming and awkward, and you can’t shed unneeded user licenses until the next contract renewal.

Integration

Some companies may already have other email services and systems in place, and the integration of GCC High may be difficult and time-consuming.  Further, without added purchases, third party collaboration is limited to other GCC High licensees.

Ultimately, the preference for email services will vary from company to company based on their specific needs and priorities.

But that’s not all. Through our experience, we know of a fifth, and very serious, objection:

GCC High is not available as, and cannot be made available as, a Compliant Cloud Environment (CCE).  It cannot become an integrated, online offering that fully secures and tracks CUI as it is received, used, produced, and stored. Unlike RegDOX’s Compliant Cloud Environment (CCE), which can achieve all of this.

To summarize, GCC High (along with some other offerings in the space of ITAR/CMMC compliance) is just a juiced-up email service, not a dedicated data confidentiality compliance tool and environment.
